One would have to wonder if the theologian who attempts to incorporate an evolutionary development of mankind that claims that the earth is millions or billions of years old has ever considered the implications it has upon God’s purpose of creating. The Bible proclaims that God created the world through and for Christ who holds all things together (Col 1:16-17; Heb 1:3). It is further proclaimed that the earth was created and filled with all living things for mankind, made in the image of Him, to use and take dominion over (Gen 1:26-29). Together we get a picture that God created the universe for mankind to dwell upon and mankind’s purpose was to be in relationship with his creator. Psalm 19 then declares that the entire universe is to display the greatest of God, but who is it to display it for but mankind who is created in the image of God. The point is this, creation of the world is for man to dwell upon and use in his worship of God. The question then begs, what would be the purpose of creation over billions of years where mankind does not dwell, so the universe then serves no purpose but to wait until it reaches the time when God fulfills its intended purpose? Neither plant nor animal are indwelled with a soul nor have a relationship with God. They cannot be saved, and they are not made in the image of God. Further, if their entire purpose of life and death is for the support and sustenance of mankind then they also had no purpose for millions of years. In other words, it was an utter waste of time. It would be like making all the parts of a car that are needed and then putting them on a shelf to wait for the day that will be used to build a car. In essence evolution mocks the providence of God whereby He is working all things toward His intended end which is the restoration of mankind.
